PUBG developer says no, Tencent did not buy a piece of our company

PUBG developer says no, Tencent did not buy a piece of our company

Rumors began to swirl yesterday that Bluehole Studio, the Korean developer behind smash hit Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, had received a large investment from Tencent, the Chinese corporation known for buying some of the game industry’s biggest companies. Representatives from Bluehole told Polygon that those rumors are not true.

“These reports are not accurate,” Bluehole said via email. “Tencent didn’t make an investment.”

The story seems to have originated at Yicai Global, the English-language news outlet of the Yicai News Group, a Chinese business publication. The original story cited unnamed sources, but was nonetheless picked up by GamesIndustry.biz and others.

Nearly all of those stories have been updated with a similar statement from Bluehole. Yicai Global itself, however, seems to be standing behind its sources.

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds is on a tear right now. After just a few months in early access, it’s been a lock for the top-selling game on Steam for weeks. Gameloco, a third-party group that tracks Twitch viewership, recently provided some interesting data as well. Its numbers indicate that last week Battlegrounds beat out League of Legends in total hours watched in a single week on Twitch. If true, it would be the first time that LoL has been unseated from its slot in the more than three years that Gameloco has been collecting data.

Tencent is the biggest games company in China. Late last year, it purchased the remaining equity of Riot Games. It also has an investment in Activision Blizzard, Epic Games and Clash of Clans developer Supercell. It has a Steam competitor called WeGame and distributes Candy Crush Saga in China. Recently, Tencent also made a significant investment in developer and publisher Paradox.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds devs explain why Asian servers have had so many issues

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds devs explain why Asian servers have had so many issues

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

The official Twitter account for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds makes occasional posts about coming updates and features for the wildly popular battle royale game, but most of the past few weeks have seen daily posts about server issues and how the team is working to address them. So yes, they know that PUBG’s infrastructure has been troublesome.

Tired of being told to “get good” at PUBG? Our noob’s guide has even less useful advice.

Today, they’ve issued an apology addressing those problems, and spoken on what’s caused them. You might call this one of those humble brags, but it seems PUBG is a victim of its own success.

“We anticipated about 1 million concurrent users in the beginning of our Early Access period and that is when our lobby server was initially designed,” says the team’s statement. “Since the end of June, our concurrent player base saw a rapid increase so we started designing a new server architecture. However, the number of users increased faster than our development speed which resulted in more connection and server issues recently.”

Part of that rapid expansion has been the game’s massive reception since debuting in China, and those Asian servers have had especially profound trouble keeping up with demand. A huge backlash manifested in Steam reviews around the problem, especially around claims that Chinese players were seeing in-game ads for a VPN service that would let them connect to European and North American servers.

Though the statement doesn’t address the VPN issue, it does say their solutions for players in China were rushed and premature. “Recently, the number of concurrent players in Asia has rapidly increased and there were times the cloud service we’ve been using could not provide more physical servers. To address this problem, we added servers from another cloud service without sufficient testing. Some servers overloaded, which caused frequent crashes. Our development team is investigating the issue in order to prevent it from happening in the future.”

Issues like this are part of why PUBG’s team has been expanding, to the point where they’ve spun out into a new subsidiary of Bluehole. “Our team will not be content with the status quo and will do our best to improve your experience,” they say. “Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

Know the Basic Workings of PUBG Matches Before Entering Battle Arena

Know the Basic Workings of PUBG Matches Before Entering Battle Arena

The early access of PUBG emerged in March 2018 and this game has since then gained immense popularity. Currently, it is one of the most popular battle royale games. Quite naturally, just like any other popular games, in-game hacks exist. PUBG esp hack gives a player an advantage over other players in matches. Before you use any hack, you should actually get used to this game and know what it’s all about.

PUBG Basics

The game isn’t necessarily a complex one for players to understand. However, you should know a few things before hitting the ground. Any match in PUBG begins with around 100 players jumping out of a plane and parachuting onto an 8x8km island. Thereon, players have to search for gear and weapons and keep fighting to death. One can travel around the map using a vehicle or on foot.

As the game progresses, there is a shrinking circle closing around the island. If players are caught in blue energy field, then their health faces severe damage. Players continuously keep moving to a safer area. With circle drawing closer and closer, there is ultimately a final showdown between remaining player. The last player to stay alive wins a match. Of course, using PUBG esp hack improves your chances of being among last few players, or even last one alive. Click here for more PUBG hacks, aimbots and more!

The blue circle

The blue circular wall is what makes this game even more interesting. In late game, this electric circle is the most dangerous. It brings you closer to other players in the game, which can be really annoying. Initially, after you jump out of plane, the game gives you around 1 minute and 50 seconds for looting. The first circle gets identified after that. The timings for each circle are:

  • First circle: 5 minutes
  • Second circle: 3 minutes and 20 seconds
  • Third Circle: 2 minutes and 30 seconds
  • Fourth circle: 2 minutes
  • Fifth circle: 2 minutes
  • Sixth circle: 1 minute and 30 seconds
  • Seventh circle: 1 minute and 30 seconds
  • Eight circle: 1 minute

The damage done by early zones are minimal. In fact, using boost items can potentially mitigate the damage completely. However, in case the circle of energy barrier is reached, you will face double damage if you are still outside. The damage progresses with each energy circle. During the late game, it can kill you within a few seconds.

One can watch both red zones and safe zones on the map. While in the red zone doesn’t necessarily kill you, it is always better to avoid them. The constant demand of staying in the safe zone adds to the excitement.

What is the ESP hack?

Competing against 99 other players and surviving can be stressful. With playerunknown battlegrounds aimbot hack, you can easily dominate without much stress. The hack allows you to see player names, health, skeletons through walls. All these can be colour code as per your preference. So, with that, you gain an upper hand over all other players competing in this game.
